California Dreaming
Friday, July 31st, 2009We spent most of July in California. We stayed in a cute home a block just off the beach. It was a lot of fun. We were there just under 3 weeks.
It was a lot of fun. Kenna learned to ride a bike with out training wheels. (Video on that later) We spent almost everyday at the beach. The girls loved the sand. Our home was one block from the famous Venice Beach Boardwalk, bums and all. It was an experience, the smell of urine, combined with dope and the sounds of all the street performers was nothing like your typical beach vacation. The ordinary and mundane were never part of this vacation. Kenna and Elle saw every imaginable character. We rode our bikes on the boardwalk checking out the people and enjoying the beach. Each of the girls did a “when in Rome” and got Henna tattoo’s on their lower backs. We also went into LA and drove through Beverly Hills then had lunch at a sidewalk cafe.
The last week Jeff and Lexi joined us. They made it just in time for the HUGE 10 to 20 foot waves that rolled on to shore the last 3 days. It was out of control. They were so big Jeff and I would be washed down the beach just by their ebb. The riptide was crazy. Jeff and I spent hours playing in the surf. There for almost 3 weeks we became regulars at the Sunday morning farmers market, where we’d have a huge breakfast of homemade pancakes the size of paper plates and phenomenal breakfast burritos made with fresh sausage. We would then load up on fruits and vegetables for the week. I think the girls must have eaten 20 peaches each. They were the most succulent and juicy peaches we’ve ever had.
It was a killer time.
